Safe Mercury Fillings Removal

We offer a specialized service to safely remove mercury amalgam fillings using the Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique (SMART).
We are one of only a few dental practices in Hawaii certified by the IAOMT (International Academy of Oral and Medical Toxicology) to safely perform this technique.

We prioritize your health by minimizing mercury exposure, utilizing protective protocols, and promoting natural, biocompatible alternatives for a healthier smile and overall well-being.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea Therapies

Dr. Hartwell founded the Dental Sleep Center of Hawaii in 2013 and is now one of the state’s leading experts in dental treatment for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

While sleep apnea treatment is a separate business, every dental patient is screened for it. When a patient requires both dental and sleep apnea care, it allows us to seamlessly coordinate treatment and monitor their overall health more effectively.

How are you different?

We dedicate ample time for personalized consultations, using a Total Health approach that incorporates wellness, holistic, and biocompatible perspectives. This broadens our treatment options for every dental issue. By investing in thorough planning at the start, we ensure efficient and effective procedures, leading to optimal outcomes for our patients.
Do you accept insurance?

To better serve you, we’ve chosen not to have contractual obligations with any dental insurance companies or government agencies. This allows you to make decisions about your treatment without interference from outside sources like insurance companies or government clerks. This is significant because many dental offices have lost this flexibility. When a dentist or dental office contracts with companies like HDS, HMSA, or HDHP, they grant these insurers the legal right to dictate treatment options. We strongly believe that you should determine the best treatment for yourself, not your insurance company.

Although we don’t participate in any dental insurance plans, you will still receive payment from your insurance company for treatment at our practice. The only exception is with HMO plans, where coverage is only available through their designated clinics. Fortunately, HMOs make up less than 1% of insurance plans in Hawaii, so this is rarely an issue. We’re happy to print out your insurance forms and assist you in obtaining the maximum reimbursement from your dental insurance provider.

Are you Holistic?

Yes we are. By using Holistic techniques and materials, we focus on the overall health and well-being of our patients by considering the connection between oral health and the rest of the body.

We emphasize natural and minimally invasive treatments, and avoid the use of toxic materials like mercury in fillings. We also consider the impact of dental procedures on our patient’s overall health and sometimes integrate alternative therapies alongside traditional dental care.
Do you use fluoride?

We do not use fluoride. Excessive fluoride exposure can lead to conditions like dental and skeletal fluorosis, or other health issues. We prefer other non-fluoride and non-toxic products and tooth remineralization techniques to prevent cavities and maintain oral health.
